How to write a sales resume

Sales Resume Cover Letter

The purpose of your sales resume cover letter is as an introduction to your sales resume. It should be brief - less than a page in length - and should leave the reader with a clear impression that your actual resume is worthy of reading. How best to do that? Here are a few pointers:

  1. Try and address your sales cover letter to a named person who is actually recruiting. Otherwise 'Dear Sir' will suffice.
  2. Specify the position that you are actually applying for and how you came to be applying for the job (newspaper ad / online ad etc) and if the vacancy has a reference number then state it. These few steps will leave the reader with no doubt as to the vacancy that you are applying for.
  3. Identify one or two top skills / experience that you have that the vacancy requires. And so far as possible, tailor the content to the advert - e.g. by using similar / the same syntax.
  4. Confirm that you are interested in the vacancy, thank them for their time and say that you look forward to meeting them in person (i.e. at the interview) to discuss further.
  5. Be sure that your contact details are on the letter - top right hand side (and of that it matches your contact details as specified in your sales resume header).

That's it! Short, simple, to the point. And with enough directed content that your sales resume cover letter will entice the resume reader to move on to then read your sales resume.
